car2go Marks One Year of Carsharing in Vancouver with 15,000 Members and The Best car2go Contest Yet

More members, more vehicles, more parking spaces and a bigger Home Area
Contest gives Vancouver members the chance to win a trip for two to Europe

car2go Canada Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corporation, is celebrating its first anniversary in Vancouver with record-breaking growth and more than 15,000 registered members. To share its success with its members, the company has announced "The Best car2go Contest Yet," which gives one car2go Vancouver member a trip for two to a car2go city in Europe.

When car2go launched in Vancouver in 2011 with 225 cars, there were 2,000 members and an average of 1,500 trips per week. Today, there are 320 car2go edition smart fortwo vehicles, and 15,000 members taking an average of 12,000 trips per week. In addition to expanding the car2go Home Area to 70 square kilometers and allowing members to pick up and drop off a car2go anywhere within the City of Vancouver boundaries, the number of car2go designated parking spaces has increased by 25%, making parking even more convenient for members. Additionally, three new smart fortwo electric-drive vehicles have just arrived in Vancouver and will soon be incorporated into the car2go network and available for members to use.

"It's great to see residents of Vancouver embracing new forms of transportation like car2go," said Mayor Gregor Robertson of the City of Vancouver. "Our goal is to make Vancouver the greenest city in the world by 2020, and carsharing is an important part of improving our transportation system and making it easier for citizens to get around our city."

"As the first car2go city in Canada, Vancouver has paved the way for other cities throughout the country, and the members here are setting a great example for future car2go cities around the world," said Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go Canada.

In June 2012, car2go launched in Toronto, Ontario, and on July 21, car2go will launch in Calgary, Alberta.
