Mercedes-Benz Canada reports Q3 2023 sales results

Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network today announced Q3 2023 sales results. In Q3 2023, the company retailed 10,754 passenger vehicles and vans (+12.6% compared to Q3 2022). This number included 1,021 all-electric vehicles, setting another new benchmark for EV sales as Mercedes-Benz continues the charge into the electric future.

In Q3 2023, Mercedes-Benz Canada retailed 8,604 passenger cars and luxury light trucks. This total included 6,385 SUVs (74.2% of total sales) and 2,219 passenger cars (25.8% of total sales).

The record quarter for EV sales was driven by strong performance by all-electric SUVs from Mercedes-Benz, led by the EQE SUV (501 units retailed), EQS SUV (176 units retailed), and EQB SUV (139 units retailed).  In fact, the EQS SUV was the overall growth leader in Q3 2023 (+528.6% compared to Q3 2022, with 176 units retailed in Q3 2023 compared to 28 in the same period last year).

The arrival of the GLC SUV in Q3 2023 provided a boost in sales as the mid-sized SUV continues to be a favourite with Canadian consumers; it led in overall sales volume in Q3 with 2,517 total units retailed (SUV and Coupe combined). This was followed by the GLE SUV with 1,335 total units retailed (SUV and Coupe combined).

On the passenger car side, the C-Class (sedan, coupe & cabriolet) continued to lead in overall sales volume with 747 units retailed this quarter (+21.7% compared to Q3 2022). Growth leaders in the segment were the sporty and compact CLA Coupe (+204.6% compared to Q3 2022), the flagship S-Class (+39.1% compared to Q3 2022) and the head-turning AMG SL (+36.2% compared to Q3 2022).

In Q3 2023, Mercedes-Benz Canada's Pre-Owned division delivered 3,616 total pre-owned units (+6% compared to Q3 2022). Of those total sales 3,527 were certified pre-owned (CPO) units (+6.9% compared to Q2 2022), for a Q3 2023 CPO penetration rate of 97.5%.

Mercedes-Benz Vans Canada retailed 2,150 units overall in Q3 2023 (+32.2% compared to Q3 2022), including 1,986 Sprinter vans (+23.7% compared to Q3 2022) and 164 Metris vans. The Metris was a growth leader in the vans category in Q3 (+681% compared to Q3 2022).

"As we continue our journey towards becoming the most desirable electric brand, it is great to see more and more Canadians embracing our line-up of cutting-edge all-electric vehicles," said Andreas Tetzloff, President & CEO, Mercedes-Benz Canada. "We continue to see a nice balance between growing sales of our all-electric vehicles and continued strength of key volume drivers like the GLC, and iconic top-end vehicles like the AMG SL and S-Class. Congratulations to our dealer network and employees on a strong Q3 performance, putting us in a great position as we head into the final quarter of 2023."
