Over-the-air updates bring new entertainment and navigation offerings to Mercedes-Benz customers

  • MBUX Entertainment Update brings Dolby Atmos® and video streaming to more cars and markets
  • Front passenger experience further enhanced with new display features
  • Place Details provided by Google also coming to vehicles with first-generation MBUX

Mercedes-Benz is rolling out an extensive package of new entertainment and navigation features over the air to more than 700,000 vehicles worldwide. New features are being introduced on models equipped with second-generation MBUX systems* between August and November 2023. Customers can access MBUX Entertainment Update (2.4) via the Update Wizard on their MBUX display or the Mercedes me app after receiving a notification that it is available in their region, including Canada.

"Our in-house developed Mercedes-Benz software enables great in-car entertainment, immersive Dolby Atmos audio, video streaming and enhanced navigation experiences. Equipped with our pioneering MBUX infotainment system, our vehicles meet the rapidly changing desires of our customers worldwide through regular over-the-air feature updates."
Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer at Mercedes-Benz AG

Dolby Atmos takes in-car entertainment to the next level for customers in additional markets

Dolby Atmos goes beyond the stereo music experience, adding more space, clarity and depth to music. Whether it's hearing the layers of instruments move around you, catching the subtle breath a singer takes between lyrics, or feeling melodies wash over you, listeners will enjoy music that matches the artist's original vision.

Front passenger display now supports in-cabin audio for dynamic content and photo personalisation

Another new feature of the OTA updates is the in-cabin sound for the front passenger display. The audio from dynamic content viewed on the front passenger display can now be played on the in-cabin sound system without wearing headphones. In addition, customers can select their own Personal Decorative Image via the Mercedes me app, which is continuously featured on the front passenger display.

Cars with first-generation MBUX will benefit from advanced navigation features and additional content from Place Details, provided by Google

Mercedes-Benz makes the latest technology available to those who have purchased a car equipped with MBUX, further verifying the commitment to Mercedes-Benz customers: Vehicles with first-generation MBUX* will get access to Place Details, provided by Google. This feature – which is already available for second-generation MBUX – adds detailed information about more than 200 million businesses and other locations worldwide, including business hours, photos, ratings and reviews. As this update is performed on the server, it is automatically available to customers.

Furthermore, the route planning and guidance feature for both MBUX generations will be improved to increase the range of plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles.

* MBUX Entertainment Software Update (2.4) is available over the air (OTA) for several vehicle models. The availability and scope of the features depend on the respective market, the technical conditions of the vehicle model and the individual configurations and settings in the vehicle.
