Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. Company Profile

TORONTO, ON - Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. (MBC) imports and distributes the three brands within the Mercedes Car Group for the Canadian market; Mercedes-Benz, smart and Maybach.  The Canadian subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, the world's oldest car manufacturer, is headquartered in Toronto, Ontario.

For the 2006 model year, more than 50 models will be offered in Canada. This fine selection of motor cars includes sedans, coupes, convertibles, diesel powered vehicles, SUVs and our newest sports tourer segments that boast a full array of comfort, convenience and luxury in addition to the traditional Mercedes-Benz safety features.

The North American history of Mercedes-Benz began in 1888 when company founder Gottlieb Daimler made an arrangement with American piano builder William Steinway to produce and market Daimler engines, light trucks and passenger cars in the United States.  Steinway actually produced the "American Mercedes"in Long Island from late 1904 until February 1907 when a fire destroyed his factory and the North American production came to an abrupt halt.

In modern times, Mercedes-Benz re-entered the North American market; in the United States in 1965 and in Canada in 1955 when Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. was incorporated with head office and retail operations located at 100 Davenport Road in Toronto.

That same year a second retail store opened in Montreal and by 1956, Mercedes-Benz distributors were appointed for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Yukon while a third retail branch opened in Vancouver.

In 1958, wholesale and retail operations were established at our previous head office location at 849 Eglinton Avenue East in Toronto.  In 1962, Canadian distribution rights for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were granted to Studebaker of Canada Ltd. but were reassigned to Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. in 1965.  Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. has been a direct subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler North America Holding Corporation since 1985.

The company's three regional offices are located in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.  Our new head office, located at 98 Vanderhoof Avenue in Toronto, opened its doors in November 2003.

DaimlerChrysler was established November 17, 1998 through a merger between Daimler-Benz and Chrysler Corporation.  DaimlerChrysler is one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers with annual sales of 4.71 million passenger cars and commercial vehicles.  DaimlerChrysler has just under 400,000 employees in over 200 countries.

Its automotive brands include Mercedes-Benz, smart, Maybach, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Freightliner, Sterling and Setra brands as well as Mitsubishi Fuso.
